What is Counselling?
The task of counselling is to create a safe place for the client to explore, discover and clarify ways of managing issues that are causing problems in their lives. Counselling is not about giving advice but helping the client to find a solution that is
best for them.
Counselling can be about problem solving, goal setting or gaining insights. Progress Counselling is a confidential York based service available to anyone. Counselling offers an opportunity to talk in confidence about problems that concern you. It may also be known as psychotherapy, therapeutic counselling or psychological counselling.
Some of the issues brought to the Service include: anxiety, depression, family concerns, bereavement, difficulty in adjusting to a new way of life, work and study related problems, worries about drugs and alcohol, physical and/or sexual abuse, eating difficulties and HIV/Aids.
By talking through your problems or concerns with a counsellor, you may deepen your understanding of what is happening and develop alternative ways of dealing with the situation.
